We inherited this runner on the stairs from the previous owners. While functional and in good condition (and I'm told by the contractor, very expensive), it just wasn't me. It looks like it's from the 80s or the 90s (or whatever time period ugly rugs like that were made) and it made the entry way look dated - which was a shame because l love the wainscoting.
When we had our hardwood floors refinished, we also had the stair treads done which meant ripping off the rug and pulling out about a thousand tacks. The contractor was still here at this point so he did it for me :). Yay!
The finished treads look great, but the risers were a little banged up and painted two different colors. (We had painted the sections that we could get to around the rug earlier.)
So I got out my spackle and got to work filling holes.
Then I vacuumed, taped the stairs, and put on a coat of primer and a coat of Benjamin Moore White latex paint.
And here's how the stairs look now.
But for now, the stairs are white, crisp and clean. :)
