Yard Work

Happy (Marathon) Monday!  We're enjoying some great weather.  Jake and I took advantage of the sunshine and warmer temperatures to do a little yard work on Saturday.

I like to call our yard "the beast" and my oh my does she need to be tamed.

Our property borders a state forest which provides for a lot of privacy, scenery, and wildlife, but sometimes it's hard to separate the forest from the yard.

We went to our local nursery and picked up some plants and flowers and got to weeding, raking, and planting.

Baxter dominated the yard while Jake dominated the shovel.

We planted three different plants:  Sir Robert Azalea, Japanese Holly, and Winter Gem Boxwood.

We only bought 6 plants to start with, so we'll need to go back and pick up some more to fill in the space.  We're also in need of a mulch dump.  The garden beds are pretty much dirt and rock right now.

We couldn't resist buying some pretty flowers, though it's too soon to plant the ones that we chose (Begonias, Impatiens, and Verbenas).  Fortunately the weather is warm, so they will hang out on our deck during the day and sleep in the sun room at night until the nights get warmer.

Poor Baxter was pooped from working so hard all day.

What about you?  Did you do any gardening this weekend?

  1. Oh, I used to love yard work in spring, new plants, colorful flowers, fresh mulch. Hard work, but a very rewarding result I always thoughts. Your "beast" looks very tamed. And to back up to a state forest...yes please!
