Dining Room Progress

The last time I gave you a dining room update, we left off here.

I had just repainted the walls from Benjamin Moore's Light Pewter to Benjamin Moore's Stone and decided that the painted Ikea buffet was moving on to another room.  I'd also swapped out the light fixture above the table.

That pretty much left me with a blank room to work with.  My original intention was to use a gray and yellow color scheme, but I was having trouble incorporating the yellow.  I finally decided to buy a yellow rug after seeing a lot of them that I liked.  I purchased the Argonne Rug in Yellow from Home Decorators.

Here it is in my dining room (ignore the wrinkles, it's still settling in)

I really love the pop of of color that it adds to the space.  It's bright, but the yellow is a little more mustardy than school bus which is what I wanted.

Did you notice that other new addition in the corner?  This one here:
PS: sorry for the x-rated reflection in the glass

I bought the Peterson White Cabinet from Crate&Barrell and originally was going to use it for media storage in our den.  After assembling it, I realized two things.

1.  I didn't like it in the den.  It competed with the new fireplace and wasn't the right proportions for the space.

2.  It wasn't deep enough to fit my husband's sound system (Doh. Should have measured it first!)

So after living with it in the den for months, I got off my butt, emptied it out, and dragged it to the dining room (those felt sticky things are the best!). And I have to say that I really like it in there.

(Ignore the mustard lamp with tags on it.  I bought it from Target and am still deciding if I like it.)

So I'm making snail pace progress, but I'm trying to avoid any other big purchase mistakes.  I'd love to swap out our dining room table for something a little larger and more modern.  I have my heart set on something like this one below.   Maybe we'll get it in time for Thanksgiving. :)

  1. I love all the changes...especially the rug! The wall color really makes the rug stand out and they look great together.

  2. I have a similar look going on my dining room! Yours looks great. I'm kind of jealous of that rug!
