I spent a good portion of the weekend putting the finishing touches on my home office makeover. I even got the room cleaned up enough so that I could photograph it. I'm giving myself a little pat on the back over here.
So let's travel back in time, all the way back to September, when I talked about the decorating tornado in my head and showed you the space for the first time.
I mentioned how I wanted to make the space lighter and brighter with some more "girly" touches and that I wanted a white writer's desk.
Later that month, I created a mood board and shared my ideas with you. The inspiration for the room started with the royal blue velvet curtains from West Elm that I originally purchased for our dining room, but decided not to use. Add a white writer's desk and some pops of coral and that's the direction I was headed in.
Almost 4(!) months later, I'm finally done. Big celebration over here because this is the first room in our house that I'm actually calling finished!
The desk and two high gloss white Ikea Expedits fit this wall perfectly! The baskets are from Ikea, the boxes and magazine holders are from The Container Store.
I DIYed two pieces of artwork for above the Expedits. The first piece was inspired by the "I Love You Blogs and Coffee" piece by the MadeByGirl Etsy shop. I printed the text on an 81/2 x 11 sheet of paper and framed it.
The lamp base is from Target and I DIYed the lampshade using a plain white shade, some leftover fabric, and fabric adhesive.
Next up is finishing the guest bedroom! Oh, and the kitchen, and the bathroom, and the hallway. :) Demo is wrapped up and I'll be back later this week to share some picture of the half wall. I love it!

Almost 4(!) months later, I'm finally done. Big celebration over here because this is the first room in our house that I'm actually calling finished!
The desk chair is the Jake Chair from Room&Board, the lamp is the Ikea Barometer lamp, and the rug is the Pottery Barn Round Jute Rug. I made the memo board using a store bought cork board, fabric, and a staple gun (See the tutorial here). I ended up buying the Crate&Barrel Spotlight White 48" desk. I'm in love with it! I put a clear acrylic sheet on the top to protect it and I slipped a large calendar underneath. The best part about this desk is the amazing built in storage.
I found this cute coral colored jug in the kitchen section at Target and the pencil holder is from The Container Store. Notice the business cards?! Those are new. :) I'll be launching my decorating business very soon!
The folders are from the Martha Stewart line at Staples and make great in/out boxes. The plant, pot and picture frame are all from Ikea, the candle is from Target, and the note pad is from The Container Store.
I DIYed two pieces of artwork for above the Expedits. The first piece was inspired by the "I Love You Blogs and Coffee" piece by the MadeByGirl Etsy shop. I printed the text on an 81/2 x 11 sheet of paper and framed it.
The second piece of art that I created was based on a sign I had picked up at Home Goods. The sign no longer worked in this space, but I love the message, so I typed it up, printed it, and framed it.
Remember this chair? I bought it from Target and was going to use it in the guest bedroom, but I decided it worked better in the office. I gave it new legs with a can of white lacquer spray paint (see project here). The reading lamp is from Pottery Barn, the throw is Target, and the mirror and stool are are HomeGoods finds. The stool was originally brown (and in our den), but I gave it a coat of silver spray paint.
I repurposed our Ikea sideboard with a few coats of navy paint, switched out the hardware, and added some drawer labels. It now serves as a perfect storage solution for the office. I hung 3 Ikea Ribba pictures ledges and filled them with framed mood boards I've created. I like to call it the "great wall of inspiration."
The lamp base is from Target and I DIYed the lampshade using a plain white shade, some leftover fabric, and fabric adhesive.
My DIY magnetic chalkboard found a great home on a small wall.
I'm pretty pleased with how the space turned out and I didn't break the bank creating it. I "splurged" on the lamp and rug from Pottery Barn and the desk from Crate&Barrel, but everything else were finds from Ikea, Target, or Home Goods. I was also able to repurpose a few pieces of furniture that I already had, and I did a few DIY projects too. I love how the DIY projects make the space unique.

ReplyDeleteI am in love! The white, navy, and coral are so great together! I'd love to go to work every day in that office.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I love the colors, I just redid my living room - white couch, navy & gray accents, but I think I'll add a pop of coral for the spring.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful Jessica! You have such a wonderful place to start your new business!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with this room! I have two virtually empty rooms and I've been thinking of creating an office space in one of them. I love what you have done!
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? This is such an amazing office! I got so excited when I saw the way you displayed your design boards. Don't hate me, but I may have to steal the idea to display mine. Genius!
ReplyDeleteJessica!! Your office is amazing!! I love the color scheme and all the fabulous organization! That sideboard is so perfect for an office with the printer and the labels on the drawers! It looks so great - I have to back through and check out everything you put into it.
ReplyDeleteThis room looks fantastic. I love the Expedits beside the desk. I am addicted to them. Such a transformation. I am hosting a new link party and would love it if you would link up. http://www.ifitsnotbaroquedesignblog.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica, looks like we are both linked up to the party at If its Not Baroque Design Blog :-) I know I mentioned to you that I am stalking those design boards framed out and on the shelving, but since I am coming down to different ideas for my office and navy and white are a big part of the color combo for me, I wanted to feature your office makeover. I think you did such an amazing job on it with color and texture :-) Have a great weekend, Helen
ReplyDeleteThe room looks fantastic! I love the navy with the white and the pops of coral! I would love to use your ideas as a jumping off point for some of the spaces in my home. :)

ReplyDeleteAmazing home office. Although the before pics look better than my tiny little workspace {I am working on it}. I think you did an AMAZING JOB. Love it all!
ReplyDeleteAwesome office! I love all the white with bold colored accents. I would look for work to do just as an excuse to hang out in this space! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete~Abby =)
I also have a navy, grey, white office - and those exact same Expedits! But I love the coral addition. I may use that for spring/summer as well.
ReplyDeleteWow, that space is gorgeous! Love everything in there! Oh, and that corner with the navy sideboard and ledges...absolutely swoon worthy!
ReplyDeleteps- I'm in NH. Small world! =)
Oh, my, word! It doesn't even look like the same space! I am oohing and ahhing over every last photo. You have some major skills! Love the fabric you selected for the memo board! Just beautiful!
ReplyDeletexo,

Can you tell me the color of your wall I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's Benjamin Moore Light Pewter.
DeleteI love basically everything about this!! Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank so much :)
DeleteHi Jessica! Love your office Reno! I actually work from home full time and am in the middle of my own office Reno at the moment. I cannot wait until it's complete!!! :) I'm just waiting for my Crate & Barrel 58" spotlight desk to come in and I love the idea of putting a protective covering over top of it. I was curious....where did you buy the acrylic cover for yours? Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kimberley! I love love the Spotlight desk! The drawer and built-in storage are great. I bought a sheet of clear acrylic at the Home Depot. I was lucky they had one that fit the dimensions of my desk perfectly, but they may be able to cut a piece for you. :)
DeleteThanks Jessica! :) I'll have to check out Home Depot! I have this feeling that the 58x28" dimensions of the larger spotlight desk are going to be an issue! I just don't want to go scratching up my new desk! Thanks again for your help!
DeleteThat looks awesome, now I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

ReplyDeleteYep, sure is!
DeleteI absolutely love what you did with your space! I have a logistical question though: I saw that your printer is in the Ikea sideboard so how do you print from your computer w/ it? Is it WiFi enabled?
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, the printer is wi-fi enabled so I just print from my desk. I do have to use the printer for scanning/copies sometimes and there's enough clearance in the cabinet to get that done.
DeleteSo loving this room! Where did you find that fabric?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Hi Book! I bought it at Ballard Designs: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/malabar-coral-fabric-by-the-yard/linens-fabrics/fabric-by-the-yard/195204
DeleteWhere did you get the white furry throw in the last photo?
ReplyDeleteIt's from Room&Board http://www.roomandboard.com/rnb/product/detail.do?productGroup=3185
DeletePlease tell me where the acrylic top came from? I just order that desk in whit and I love it. I cannot find
ReplyDeleteit anywhere. Thank You Melanie
Hi Melanie. I found it at Home Depot. I was lucky that they had exactly the size I needed. Good luck!
DeletePrecious!
